DEATH OF FRANCISCUS LITTY

He Died at His Home in David City Last Friday Morning.

The death of Franciscus X. Litty occurred on Friday morning, Sept. 27, about 4:30 o'clock. His death came after severe illness of about four months with stomach trouble. He was at his home North David City when he passed away, but he had recently been in Lincoln in a sanitarium.

Mr. Litty was one of Butler county's most highly respected citizens and his death is mourned by many close friends and surviving relatives. His funeral was one of the largest attended funerals held here for some time.

The funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m. Monday in St. Mary's Catholic church, when solemn requiem high mass was sung by Rev. Father J. C. Caraher. He also preached an eloquent and effective sermon in which he paid personal tribute to Mr. Litty and eulogized his many excellent characteristics. Rev. Father Caraher was assisted in the mass by Rev. Father Ildephonse, of Lincoln, as deacon and Rev. Father O. N. Turgeon, of St. Frances church, Center township, as sub-deacons. The church choir, composed of Miss Katherine Van Lom, Mrs. H. H. Eiting, Mrs. P. A. Tomek, Peter Reisdorf, Lottie Dworak, with Miss Henrietta Knott at the organ, sang three selections.

The pall bearers were Herman Daniels, Herman Ficke, John Hilger, Harry Hilger, William Vandenburg and Gilbert Zegers. Interment was in St. Mary's cemetery, David City.

Rock Island, Illinois, was the birthplace of Mr. Litty. He was born on April 7, 1849. He came to Nebraska when 20 years of age and located in Richardson county.

He was married to Miss Therisa Graf on February 3, 1880, in Falls City, Neb. Thirteen children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Litty, eleven of whom are living. They are John Litty of Dalton, Neb., Mrs. Frank Griffin of Lincoln, Mrs. Michael Danaher of Center township, Leo Litty of Calloway, Neb., Miss Otilla Litty of David City, Edward Litty of Dalton, Ernest, Gertrude, Esther, George and Helena, who are living at home. Mr. Litty is survived also by one brother and three sisters. They are John Litty of David City, Mrs. Florence Zahn and Mrs. Mary O'Connell of Spaulding, Neb., and Sister M. Hildupha of Allen's Grove, Wis.

With the exception of Edward Litty, who was unable to come, the children were all present at the funeral, as was also Mrs. Zahn. Others in attendance from out of town were Frank Griffin from Lincoln, a son-in-law of Mr. Litty; Mrs. Leo Litty, from Dalton, a daughter-in-law; Florence Zahn, brother-in-law, Thomas O'Connell, a brother-in-law, and son and August Fritz, a nephew, from Spaulding; John Diessner, from Humphrey, a brother-in-law; Frank Richter, from Kearney, A. Rubenthaler, from Gothenburg, a brother-in-law; Mrs. Theo. Rutten from Calloway, a sister of Mrs. Litty.

For over 28 years Mr. Litty had been a resident of Butler county. He, with his family, moved here in 1884 and located on a farm in Center township. After residing there 18 years, they moved to a farm two miles south of town in order that their children might receive better schooling. In February, 1912, the Litty family [moved] to David City.

Mr. Litty held the office of school director in Center township for several years. He was a member of Esther court No. 21, Tribe of Ben Hur, in which order he carried $1800 life insurance. He had been affiliated with the Catholic church in David City, earnest in the faith and generous in support of the church.

Besides owning property in David City, Mr. Litty was the owner of considerable land near Calloway and Dalton, Neb.
