Alan Bird was born on June 29, 1933, in Leadmine, the son of Clarence Bird and Sarah Carter. He married Annette Osterhaus Hale on Aug. 21, 1970, in Darlington. Alan was a member of Ducks Unlimited and enjoyed the outdoors.

He liked boating on his pontoon, fishing, gardening and enjoyed good times with his friends, especially times at George French's cabin. He also loved to cook for his family and friends. Alan died on Friday, Feb. 8, 2008 at Southwest Health Center Nursing Home, Cuba City. He was 74.

Survivors include his wife, Annette; two step-daughters, Kathryn (Robert) Vecchio, of Montgomery, N.Y., and Cheryl (Stefan) Goreau, of Highland Falls, NY; a son, Alan Jr. (special friend Amy Norwick), of Madison; two sisters, Ruth (Larry) Cherrey, of Shullsburg, and Carolyn FItzgerald, of Fountain Valley, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Maureen Bird, of Glenn Allen, Va.; four grandchildren, Emma, Erick, Scott and Tyler; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceeded in death by his parents; a brother Bill; and a brother-in-law, Paul Fitzgerald.

Services were Feb. 10, 2008 at the Casey Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Cuba City; the Rev. James Lins officiated. Burial was in the Primitive Methodist Cemetery.
