Suggested edit: Evan B. Barnes died at his Platteville home June 8, 1921 due to apoplexy. He was born October 15, 1843 at St. Louis, Missouri, to William P. and Jane Wright Barnes. In 1844, the family moved from Missouri and located on a farm at Elk Grove, Wisconsin.
On August 12, 1862, Evan enlisted as a private in company E, 23rd Infantry Regiment Wisconsin. His residence was listed as Mazomanie, Wisconsin. He was wounded on May 16, 1863, was transferred to Regiment RC on March 15, 1864 and mustered out on June 25, 1865.
Evan married Julia Marie McNett, daughter of Lorenzo Dow and Roxie McCumber McNett, on March 19, 1871 at Elk Grove. They farmed at Elk Grove until 1884 when they moved to Platteville where they lived the remainder of their lives.
One child was born to Evan and Julia, but died soon after birth. They adopted Frank Louis Barnes, who survives. Evan was preceded in death by his wife, Julia, on June 12, 1912. He married Elizabeth Eplett, daughter of John and Joanna Vivian Eplett, on September 3, 1913 at Platteville.
