3c Petty Officer Lewis A. Cummings, 23, of Binghamton, New York (formerly of Johnson City NY), died as a result of an automobile accident on January 24, 1960, near San Francisco, California.

A January 1956 graduate of Johnson City High School, he signed on for a four-year enlistment with the U.S. Navy in June 1956.

Mr. Cummings' duty stations in the Navy included Brooklyn NY, Washington D.C., Treasure Island CA, Hawaii, and Okinawa Japan prior to being stationed on the USS Ticonderoga with the Pacific Fleet.

He was looking forward to attending college after his Navy enlistment expiration in June 1960.

Survivors included his mother, Mrs. Eva Cummings of Chenango Bridge NY; his father, Lewis Cummings, of Binghamton NY; one sister Miss Kay Cummings and a brother Dale, both of Chenango Bridge; three half-sisters, Mrs. Edmund Zalenski and Mrs. Jack Delafield both of Johnson City NY and Mrs. Richard Northrup of Chenango Forks NY; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
