Lloyd Joseph Achter, 63, of Sauk Centre, died Monday, Aug. 9, 2004 at his home.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Aug 12 at the Sauk Centre School Auditorium with Rev. Becky Thomas officiating. Military honors were provided by the Sauk Centre United Veterans Honor Guard. Private inurnment took place in Greenwood Cemetery. Lloyd Achter was born Sept. 4, 1940, in Alexandria, MN to Marvin and Frances (Welty) Achter, 45 minutes after his twin Roy Achter. He completed his high school education in Glenwood, MN. After training in small engine repair with his father in Glenwood, Lloyd entered the United States Army and spent three years as a military police officer in California and Korea. Upon discharge from the Army, Lloyd served on local police departments in Montevideo and Alenxandria, Minn. He was united in marriage to Karen Marie Anderson on Sept. 7, 1963, at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, in Edina. In 1967, he joined the Minnesota State Patrol. He was stationed briefly in Baudette, MN, and then transferred to Sauk Centre where he served the remainder of his 28 year career. In Sauk Centre, Lloyd volunteered on the Fire Department, served on the Sauk Centre City Council, and was a proud member of the American Legion Post 67. He opened an electronics business, Achter Electronics, which specialized in CB radios and antennae. Lloyd's hobbies and interests included camping, music, electronics, reading, visiting with friends, and making gifts for his grandchildren. After retiring in 1995, he and Karen spent winter months with friends in Mesa, AZ. Lloyd was a member of First Lutheran Church in Sauk
Centre where he was an usher. He is survived by his wife, Karen, Sauk Centre; three children, Christine Fiero (Wayne), Finlayson, MN, John Achter (Liddy), Menomonie, WI and Paul Achter, Richmond, VA; three siblings, sister, Martha Fletcher (Bill), Glenwood, MN and two brothers, Roy Achter, Rochester, MN and Jack Achter (Beth) Fergus Falls, MN. Lloyd is also survived by four grandchildren, Haley Fiero, Alex Fiero, Andrew Achter and Anna Achter. His father and mother preced him in death, as well as a sister-in-law, Sharon Achter. Casket bearers were Bud Nordine, Fred Korte, Jerry Schoumaker, George Trierweiler, Harold Nelson and Mark Sprengeler. Honorary bearers will be active officers and retirees of the Minnesota State Patrol, members of the Sauk Centre Volunteer Fire Department and Sauk Centre Police Department. Patton Schad Funerl and Cremation Service, Saukk Centre.
