Catherine contracted Yellow Fever shortly after arriving at the Sisters of Mercy Convent in Vicksburg, MS in August of 1880 where she had intended on entering the convent. In her ill state, she was unable to take her vows and returned home, dying a few weeks later. She is buried in an unmarked grave.
