Dean has been cremated and his ashes will be buried in the Durant Cemetery, Durant, Iowa, at a later date.
Visitation will be 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., Sunday, September 2, at Bentley Funeral Home in Durant. A luncheon will be served at the Durant American Legion in Durant following the visitation. A memorial has been established in his memory.
Dean Russell McCleary was born April 25, 1961, in Muscatine. the son of Russell and Doris (Pulliam) McCleary. He graduated from Durant High School in 1980. He married Carla J. Hardin and were later divorced. He was employed at Casey's and delivered the Quad City Times in Durant. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post #430 Durant for 20 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his friends. He was an avid Durant Wildcat fan, especially girls softball.
Surviving are his mother and step-father, Doris and Raymond Hanson of Stockton; one sister, Rae Jean (John) McGuire of Durant; one brother, Darren McCleary of San Francisco, CA; his step-mother, Sharon McCleary of Muscatine; one half-brother, Matt (Michelle) McCleary of Irvine CA; one niece, Bailey McGuire; and one nephew, Connor McGuire.
He was preceded in death by his father, Russell McCleary and his grandparents.
