Orangeburg - Alexander Barr, 79, a retired railroad worker, died Thursday at a local hospital. The funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Rivelon Baptist Church. Burial will be in St. George Baptist Church Cemetery, directed by Thompson Funeral Home. Mr. Barr was born in Orangeburg County, a son of the late Lewis Barr and Mrs. Elizabeth Whetstone Barr. He was a member of Rivelon Baptist Church and the Woodmen of the World. Surviving are: his widow, Mrs. Dorothy P. Barr of Orangeburg; four sons, Howard L. Barr of Columbia, James L. Barr of Austin, Tex., and David E. Barr and Richard W. Barr, both of Orangeburg; a stepson, Ralph E. Hughes of Orangeburg; four half sisters, Mrs. Bill Dees of Orlando, Fla., Mrs. Rhonda Cooper and Mrs. Polly Amick, both of Darlington, and Mrs. Hazel Raley of Florence; a half brother, Alonza Barr of Florence; 10 grandchildren. © The News and Courier, Charleston, SC, 5 Feb 1977
