William and Elizabeth homesteaded on Stewart's Creek, about three miles from St. Mary, KY and were the parents of: John Hughes, 17xx-18xx; William Hughes, Jr., 17xx-18xx; Miss Mary Hughes, xxxx-1871; Francis Hughes, 1788-18xx; James Hughes, 1793-18xx; Andrew Hughes, c.1795-1833; Elizabeth (Hughes) Brown, 1792-1872; and Catherine "Katy" (Hughes) Monarch, 1797-18xx.

William Hughes, Sr. died testate near St. Mary, in Washington (now Marion) County, KY. His will was written Feb. 27, 1823 and probated Apr. 28, 1828 and recorded in Will Book D, page 331. In the will he leaves a bequest to his wife, who he does not name. He leaves bequests to five sons and three daughters which he names as follows: John, William, Francis, James and Andrew Hughes and Mary Hughes, Elizabeth Brown, and Caty Monarch. He made his sons and sons-in-law his executors. This will was witnessed by: David Cleaver, John Thompson and Elizabeth Flanagan.
