From the baptism certificate of the Sacred Heart Church in Nacogdoches, TX, the priest, James H. Moran writes: "I, the undersigned, solomnly baptized Susan Agnes Smith, the daughter of Patrick Smith and Mary Poole, born on 16 October, 189?, baptized on 13 March (no year included) ". The sponsors were Mary Burnett and J. Moran. The baptism probably took place in San Augustine when the priest would go there to say mass and also conduct baptisms for the small congregation of Catholics living there

From Patrick Smith's bible, it says, "Susie Smith, born October 16, 1892". There is a "famiy history" story that in later years, Sue went down the birth page changing the years of birth of all and the page does show that the original birth years were overwritten by someone with a very dark pen. She was the tenth child of Patrick and Mary Poole Reilly Smith.

In April, 1898, when Susan was six years old, her mother died. In December, 1906, her father, Patrick, passed away at her age 14. From the time her mother died until Patrick died, her older sister, Catherine "Kate" Smith became the mother of the house and took care of Susan and her siblings still living at home. After her father's death, her older brother, Bernard Reilly was appointed administrator of the estate and also the guardian of the minors, Farrell, Susan, Phillip and Michael.

Patrick and Mary Reilly Smith's estate was probated in San Augustine from January of 1907 to May, 1907 when the estate was distributed to the eight surviving children. Susie, Philip and Michael Smith were minors at the time of estate distribution so their collective share of the estate was assigned to their guardian and older brother, Bernard R. Smith. The distribution consisted of cash and land that was the residue of the Bernard Reilly (Patrick's uncle) estate, who had died in 1873.

In the 1980's, Michael Smith wrote a Smith Family History about his parents and each of his siblings and wrote this about Susan: "Susie Smith was born in San Augustine, Texas on Oct 16, 1892. She lived in San Augustine, Texas and went to and graduated in S.A. High School. Then she went to Lady of Lake Convent in San Antonio, Texas where she graduated. On graduation she went to live with her oldest brother, Bernard in Birmingham, Ala where he was in the coal business. There she met and married Schuyler Richardson in 1917 in Birmingham."

Michael also writes that Schuyler was a Superior Court judge; they had two children, Schuyler, Jr. and Patrick Richardson. He concludes with "Sue is a complete invalid and resides in a nursing house in Huntsville, died 1982."
