Eliza Jane Rothrock was the seventh of ten known children of William Rothrock (1824-1916) and Eleanor (went by Ellen) Berrier Rothrock (1831-1900), who married 23 May 1850 at Davidson County, North Carolina. William had previously been married to Ellen's elder sister, Christina Berrier Rothrock (1826-1849) in 1847, but they had no known children. The William Rothrock family (William a farmer) was living at Davidson County, North Carolina in 1850, 1860 and 1870. In 1871 the family (except for the eldest child, Susan, who stayed behind in North Carolina) moved to Dresden, Saline County, Missouri where they lived the remainders of their lives.
Eliza married Benjamin Franklin Terrell Burford (1852-1924) on 28 Jan 1883 at Saline County, Missouri. Eliza and Ben were the parents of nine known children, namely:
1. Mary Ellen Hepsibeth Burford Ezell (1883-1954)
2. Philip Rothrock Burford (1886-1971)
3. Lucy Catherine Burford Elliott (1887-1971)
4. Sarah Amanda Burford Ezell (1889-1981)

6. Ethel Jane Burford Mawhorter (1894-1978)
7. Ruth Edna Burford (1898-1992)
