Obituary: Margaret Ann Smith Johnson (Johnston)
"Johnson ---- Mrs. Margaret Ann Johnson was born at Hamilton, Canada, February 6, 1851, died at her home, Lamoni, Tuesday, May 9, aged 55 years, 3 months, and 3 days.
Deceased was married to Robert Johnson at St. Clair, Mich., June 1, 1872. To this union were born eight children, six of whom are living, all being present at the funeral except one daughter who resides in Canada. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson moved to Missouri in 1872, where they lived until the spring of 1899, when they moved to Lamoni, where they have since resided.
Mrs. Johnson had been in poor health for some time, afflicted with cancer. She suffered much during the last months, and death came as a relief. Her faith in the ordinances of the church of her youth, the L.D.S., was a source of much comfort to her in her closing days. She endured patiently the pain, and welcomed the release.
The funeral was from the home, Wednesday at three p.m., in charge of Elder John Smith, sermon by Elder Herman C. Smith, interment in Rosehill."
Transcribed from newspaper version, presumably originally published by the Lamoni Chronicle, by Wally S., 10-26-2012 from a photograph version provided by Carolyn Jackson and attached to a family tree on 10 Feb 2010.
Please note that the "T" was mistakenly left out of the name, "Johnston" in the original version as well.
