Death Claims Luther Beard
Funeral service for Luther Thomas Beard, 95, of 711 Sixth Ave., Laurel, who died Friday night in a local hospital, after brief illness, will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Memory Chapel Funeral Home. He was a native of Wayne County but lived in laurel since 1908. For many years he owned and operated Beard's Ready to Wear Store on Central Ave., and later the South Bend Dairy. After retiring from the dairy in 1942 he was in the real estate business and owned and developed the Wildwood subdivision. His wife, Hester Leggett Beard preceded him in death in 1950. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Laurel.
Survivors are one daughter, Miss Rachael Beard, Laurel; two sons, Rudolph Beard, Philadelphia, Pa., and Kenneth Beard, Laurel. Other survivors are four brothers, Warner Beard Sr., Frank Beard Sr., and D. T. Beard Sr., all of Laurel and Haskell Beard, Hattiesburg. He had three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Officiating minister is Dr. Robert Marsh, his pastor. Burial will be in Hickory Grove cemetery. Pallbearers are: T. J. White, Vernon Roberston, R. G. Patterson, Joe Roberts, R. L. Rogers and James A. Morgan. Memory Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
