Dennis J. Loughlin, M.D. was the son of John K. and Eleanor (Sweeney) Loughlin. He was brother to William H. Loughlin, Mary Helen Loughlin Willenim, John K. Loughlin, Jr. and Henry C. Loughlin, Esq. Dennis attended the Ringgold Grammar School and Central High School in Philadelphia. Dennis married Katherine Dornan and was father to Helen M. Loughlin McArdle, Florence M. Loughlin Stanton, Mary D. Loughlin, and William Dornan Loughlin. Dennis' practice was an Allopath doctor, practicing in the southern section of the city for over 30 years; he graduated from Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University. Dennis was appointed Inspector of Drugs at the port of Philadelphia during President Cleveland's first term. In President Cleveland's second term of office he was appointed pension surgeon for which he served until his death. Dennis was a prominent member of the Young Men's Democractic Association and was a candidate for coroner on the Democratic ticket about three years before his death. Dennis also serviced as school director in the second section of Philadelphia. He died of Bright's disease after a three month illness. He had been living at 1347 Ellsworth St. at the time of his death.
