Mark "Coon" W. Allen, age 97, of King (formerly of Friendship) died Tuesday, January 3, 2006 in the Wisconsin Veterans' Home in King.
Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 7, in Roseberry's Funeral Home, Friendship, Rev. Ronald Hanson officiating. Interment was Sunday, Jan. 8, in the South Burr Oak Cemetery. Military rites were offered by the Adams VFW Post #6279, the Adams Red Cloud American Legion Post #250, and the Grand Marsh Snider-Richardson American Legion Post #273. Visitation was Saturday, Jan. 7, prior to services in the funeral home.
Coon was born Dec. 10, 1908 in Monroe Center, the son of Jesse and Agnes B. (Pease) Allen. He married Myrtle Mae Lyon on Sept. 29, 1930 in Friendship. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Army in the European Theater of War. He and his wife made their home in Friendship where they owned and operated the Bear Trap in Friendship from 1952 to 1974. Coon had also worked as a local carpenter for many years.
Coon enjoyed hunting and fishing; collecting and repairing guns; and raising, training and showing horses. He had been a member of the Adams Red Cloud American Legion Post for 60 years.
Preceding him in death were: his parents; his wife, Myrtle (April 8, 2001); sons, Erwin (July 28, 1934), Lyle M. (Nov. 1981), and David (June 30, 1988); daughter Dorothy Sindelar (Sept. 15, 2004); brothers, Leonard, Berty, Calvin, Theodore and Bernie, and one sister, Katie Anderson.
Survivors are: sons, Norman Allen of Adams, and James (Phyllis) Allen of Nekoosa; 21 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Roseberry's Funeral Home, Friendship, assisted the family with arrangements.
