A devoted husband, & dedicated to family, Earl enjoyed following the pursuits & activities of his children, grandchildren, & great grandchildren. He married Mary Dolores Parker on December 13, 1941. They were united in Marriage for 65 years until Dolores' passing in 2007. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Fairbury & a member of the Cathedral of the Risen Christ in Lincoln. Earl was a World War II Army Combat Veteran. He served as a First Sergeant with the 12th Armored Division, nicknamed the "Hellcats". He specialized in the use of heavy weapons during the Battle of the Rhineland in Germany & France (1944-1945). Earl was a licensed Nebraska Real Estate Broker since 1950. He owned & operated Earl Elgert Realty in Fairbury for over 40 years before moving to Lincoln with his wife in the late 1980's. He practiced real estate with his sons Mike & Pat until the age of 85. He retired in 2002.
Earl is survived by: Sons: Mike Elgert, John Elgert, Matt Elgert all of Lincoln. Son & Daughter-in-law: Pat & Judy Elgert of Lincoln, Daughter & Son -in -law: Francie & Kim Elder of Lincoln, 10 Grandchildren, 15 Great Grandchildren.
Earl was preceded in death by his Wife, Parents, Sister Mildred Eilts, Daughter-in-law Linda Elgert, Brothers-in-law Bill Parker & Francis Parker.
Burial was in the Fairbury Cemetery, Fairbury, NE.
