Graveside service for SFC (ret) Lester Frederick Winings, 75, of Lawton, Oklahoma will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 30, 2012 at Fort Sill National Cemetery.
Burial will be with full military honors under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.
SFC Winings passed away on Monday, August 27, 2012 in Lawton, Oklahoma.
Lester was born on October 17, 1936 in Mattoon, Illinois to Lester H. and Daisy Moore Winings. He grew up in Mattoon where he attended local schools. After high school he served in the United States Army Reserves and then joined the United States Marine Corps. He served for a three years before he was honorably discharged. He married Mineko Mizuno on June 3, 1958 in Yokohama, Japan. Lester joined the United States Army in 1960 where he received numerous awards and medals for his service to his country before his retirement on January 31, 1978.
Mr. Winings is survived by his son, Clifford Winings, of Bradford, Maine; his daughter, Patricia Williams, and her husband, Jimmy, of Elgin, Oklahoma; his sister, Pauline Stillwell, of Missouri, his grandchildren, Daniel Williams, Brian Williams, Thomas Williams, Jseoph Williams, Jeremy Winings; his great grandchildren, Devin Williams, Paige Williams, Colton Williams, and Carson Williams.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of fifty years, Mineko, his brother, Jerry Winings, and his sister, Esther Navarette.
