Peter Houske was born in Judaberg, Stavanger, Norway, on August 23, 1871. His parents were Ingeborg and Thormad Hausken. He had one brother and five sisters. He came to America about 1886.

Peter was interested in the Halstad village affairs and served as a member of the council, fire department, and as village assessor. He was a member of the Sons of Norway, Woodman and Knights of Pythias Lodges.
