Butch Rickman, 61, passed away on Thursday, June 10, 2004, in Sandpoint. Butch was born Aug. 13, 1942, in Sandpoint, the son of Henry and Vera (Schumann) Rickman. He grew up and attended Bonner County schools and graduated from Sandpoint High School.

Butch began working in the grocery business more than 50 years ago and had worked at Rogers Thrift as a meat cutter in the mid-1960s and Y-J Meats in Post Falls. Butch had been a volunteer firefighter and had worked for Hartman's Ambulance Service. He lived in Trout Creek, Mont., for a short time and worked in the woods. He returned to Sandpoint, working at Gooby's Meats, the M&J, Excell Foods, which is now Safeway, and for the past 20-plus years, at Harold's IGA as their meat cutter.

Butch enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger days and building things out of wood. More recently, he was an avid fan of NASCAR racing and collected train memorabilia.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Kari Rickman of Sandpoint; two grandsons, Thomas and Jonathan Rickman; his stepmother, Loretta Rickman of Sandpoint; five brothers, Rick Rickman of Chandler, Ariz., Marvin Rickman of Mexico, Conrad Rickman of Deer Park, Wash., Dean Michael Rickman of Concord, Calif., and Kevin Rickman of Sandpoint; three sisters, Geraldine (William) Hankel of Deer Park, Norma (Ray) Holt of Sandpoint, and Margie (Chuck) Woods of Sandpoint; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Wayne and Bob; two sisters, Ghyneth and Rennae; and his lifetime friend, Les Rogers.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 19, 2004, at Coffelt's Moon Chapel. Inurnment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Pastor Gregory A. Thompson will officiate. Arrangements are under the care of Coffelt Funeral Service of Sandpoint.
