Evelyn M. "Evie" Blackmer, 83, of Erie, IL, died Sunday, July 15, 2012 at Prophets Riverview – Good Samaritan Center, Prophetstown, IL. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM Wednesday, July 18th at Gibson Funeral Home, Erie. Private graveside services will be held in the Erie Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Erie Ambulance Service or the Erie Public Library. Evelyn was born November 2, 1928 in Prophetstown, Illinois, the daughter of Peter and Amy (Emo) VanDamme. She married Lowell Blackmer in 1948 in Tampico, IL. The couple lived in the vicinity their entire lives. Lowell preceded her in death in 1990. Evie was a member of the Erie United Methodist Church. Her passions included walking and riding her bike, having coffee with her friends, and working at the King's Closet in Erie. She loved her grandchildren and her dog, Bentley. She is survived by her son, Greg (Donna) Blackmer, Moline; daughter-in-law, Michelle Blackmer, Erie; sisters, Shirley Thompson, Prophetstown, Dixie Johnson, Galesburg, Lilah VanDamme, Sterling; 4 grandchildren, Emily Malcolm, Sean Blackmer, Kelli Blackmer, Kate Blackmer; 4 step grandchildren, Don Adams, Jr., Dana Gustafson, Rob Adams, D'arcy Echols and a special friend, Helen Benker - Hovonick. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Bret in 2000; brothers, Mike, Fien, Chester and Lester VanDamme and sisters, Mildred Beldin and Kay Walker
