Sarah Jane Wiley McMechan was born in Ballycowan, Down Ireland. She met and married David McMechan in Castlewellan, Down, Ireland in 1847. They had 7 children. After her husband David and daughter Flora's death, she immigrated with 3 other children to Boone Iowa in 1881, where they joined another daughter and son already there. She was a member of the Presbytarian Church in Boone and a much loved member of the community. She died suddenly June 1894
