John Lemuel (Lem) Abbott, passed away June 7, 1972 at the Bethany Nursing Home, Camrose, at the age of 93 years 2 months.
Born in Ohio, he came to Edmonton in 1900.
In 1905, he married Emma Jane McKernan, who predeceased him in 1957. They lived in Tofield for 48 years, where Lem practiced his barber trade.
A self-taught musician, he was a member of the Tofield Band. Later he taught and conducted a Tuxis Boys' Band.
He was predeceased by two brothers and one sister. Left to mourn his passing; his daughter, Clara and son-in-law, Eric (Brady); seven grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and many friends.
Funeral services were held June 12, with Reverend Harvey of Camrose United Church officiating. He was laid to rest in the Tofield Cemetery by long time friends; Mr. J. Stinson, Mr. B. Everitt, Mr. E. Geoglin, Mr. R. Burchard, Mr. J. Wood, and Mr. A Haukedal. Burgar Funeral Home,
Camrose Limited, were in charge of arrangements.
