Services for longtime farmer and rancher, Edmond Herbert Eisenbraun, 94, of Rapid City and formerly of Creighton, SD will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2007 at 10 am at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Creighton, SD with Pastors David Fechner and Monty Dell officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, August 24, 2007 from 4-6 pm with a 6 pm prayer service at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City and at the church 1 hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday.
Mr. Eisenbraun died, Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at his home in Rapid City where he and his wife Goldie have resided since 2003. Edmond was born on July 12, 1913 at Creighton, SD, to Martin and Lydia (Denke) Eisenbraun. He was a baptized and
confirmed member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Creighton where he was a
life-time member.
Edmond attended school in Rainy Creek Township, and lived with his parents on their farm, spending his boyhood helping his parents. In the drought of the 1930s, when many young men were forced to seek employment elsewhere, Edmond worked in the harvest fields of Eastern South Dakota and for the WPA. He then returned to the
farm/ranch he had rented from Homer Searle, White River, SD, which he later purchased.
On April 11, 1937, Edmond was united in marriage to Goldie Kraft at Quinn, SD, by her father, Rev. Albert Kraft. This marriage has endured 70 years. Taking an active interest in church and community affairs, Edmond served on his church board for over 30 years, served on the school board and was a township clerk for 15 years. In 1956, he purchased the historic Creighton Store and Post Office, which became home to
Edmond and his wife Goldie, who also was the postmaster. In 1958, he chaired the new Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 1 1/2 miles north of Creighton. He was a member and officer of the Eastern Pennington County Soil Conservation District at its
inception. Edmond took a conscientious interest in the land and received the County Range and Land Management award in 1958. He became the co-owner of the Wall Livestock Auction in 1960 which he continued to operate for 16 years. He retired at the age of ninety at which time he Goldie moved to Rapid City.
Edmond was a people person. He was never happier than when his home was filled with family and visitors. He maintained a dry sense of humor, as well as a deep faith in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Edmond is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Goldie of Rapid City; 1 son,
Ed and his wife Linda of Rapid City; 2 daughters, Karel Reiman of Midland, SD, and Paula Eisenbraun of Rapid City; 1 step sister, Matilda Eisenbraun of Wall, SD;
9 grandchildren, Darcey Eisenbraun, Anne Marie Moege, Brian Eisenbraun, Steven Reiman, Connie Gibney, Kathy Nelson, Clay Eisenbraun, Mark Reiman, and
Tawney Eisenbraun; 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, Alvina Eisenbraun, 4 brothers, Leo, Oscar, Otto, and Erwin Eisenbraun, 3 step-brothers, Oscar, Edwin, and Alvin Drewitz, and son-in-law, Lloyd Reiman.
Burial will be at Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery at Creighton, SD with Kirk Funeral Home of Rapid City in charge of the arrangements. Memorials have been established to Emmanuel Lutheran Church at Creighton and The Lutheran Hour.
