Mrs. Bessie Austin
Council Grove-Mrs. Bessie Austin, 82, Council Grove, died late Tuesday, March 19, at a Council Grove hospital.
She was born Dec. 18, 1902, at Strawn, the daughter of John and Olive Lamond Hughes. She lived in Council Grove the past 15 years.
Mrs. Austin was a member of the Christian Church at Carterville, Mo.
She was married to John Austin Dec. 8, 1942. He died Oct. 10, 1972.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Virginia Roe, Kansas City, Kan.; three sons, Everett Steck and Claude Steck, both of Council Grove and Kenneth Steck, Phoenix, Ariz.; a stepson, Jack Austin, Danville, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. Hazel Creasey and Mrs. Frances South, both of Buffalo, Mo.; a brother, Oscar Hughes, Council Grove; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Kendall Funeral Chapel in Council Grove. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery at Council Grove.
