Wayne W. Wesley was a history buff who enjoyed traveling to historical places in Texas and passing on history lessons to his grandchildren.
He died Thursday at the age of 58 from a heart attack.
Mr. Wesley graduated from the University of Kentucky after serving for two years in the Army Air Corps.
He applied and was accepted by the FBI and began training in Washington D.C.
He was transferred to Maryland, where he spent ten years and later attended language school in Monterey, California.
"He wanted a new assignment so he studied Spanish and then was transferred to San Antonio," the son said.
Mr. Wesley came to San Antonio in 1963 as a special agent of the FBI.
"He really liked his work with the FBI," said his son, Charles Wesley. "He was with them for 25 years before retiring to take a job with Alamo Savings."
During his time with the FBI, Mr. Wesley supervised the organized crime and bank robbery unit. His duties also included scam operations and fraud by wire.
He joined Alamo Savings as a vice president in 1977 and worked his way up to senior vice president. He had recently been placed in charge of the checking and customer services department.
When Mr. Wesley wasn't working, he enjoyed spending time with his family and taking short trips with his older grandchildren.
"He would stop at all the historical markers and tell his grandchildren what the significance of the history was," his son said. "He was always talking and teaching."
An avid University of Texas football fan, Mr. Wesley attended every home game he could.
When his children were younger, he was very active in the Boy Scouts of America and encouraged his children to take part in the activities.
Mr. Wesley is survived by his wife, Ann J. Wesley; mother, Ellen Wesley of Lexington, Kentucky; daughters, Linda McDonald and Sandra Rotman; sons, Charles Wesley and Thomas Wesley; stepdaughter, Jennifer Landgrebe; five grandchildren; sister, Virginia Rentz of Lexington, Kentucky, and a brother, Edmund Wesley, of Austin, Texas.
Services were to be this morning.
