Son of William and Ella B. (Edwards) Stevens.

He was enumerated in the household of William and Ella in the 1850 US Federal Census on 11 Sep 1850 at Athol, MA, where his father was a carpenter.

On 12 Jul 1861 George mustered into service with Company A, of the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, being credited to the quota of Oxford, MA. He was 16 years, 5 months and 8 days old.

On 1 Mar 1863 he was promoted to Corporal.

On 3 Jul 1863 George was wounded at The Battle of Gettysburg, Adams County, Pennsylvania, and on 22 Jul 1863 his wounding was reported in the "Worcester Spy."

On 1 May 1864 he was promoted to Sergeant, and on 12 May 1864 he was wounded at Spotsylvania, Virginia.

On 28 Jul 1864 George mustered out of the 15th Massachusetts due to expiration of service term.

He applied for a veteran's pension on 21 Oct 1864, and received certificate number 37561.

George died on 9 Jun 1884 at Oxford, Worcester County, Massachusetts, unmarried, of pneumonia. He was 39 years, 4 months and 5 days old.
