Rev. John W. Davis
Rev. John W. Davis, 71, a resident of Timbercrest Retirement Community since May 1997, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 1997 at Timbercrest Retirement Community. He was born Dec. 7, 1925 at South Bend, IN to Warren C. and Edith (Stookey) Davis, both deceased.
He married Lois Bagwell in North Manchester Dec. 18, 1949. He was a retired pastor in the Evangelical United Brethren and United Methodist Churches for 40 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Syracuse Calvary United Methodist church, a member of the North Indiana Conference of the United Methodist church, and a World War II Army Veteran. Before coming to Timbercrest, he had lived in Syracuse, IN for seven years.
Survivors include his wife, Lois, of North Manchester; three sons - Stephen P. and Timothy J., both of Syracuse, and Michael T. of Lawrenceburg, IN; a daugh-ter, Mrs. Ned (Mary) Rogers of Batesville, IN; a brother, Ted C. Davis of Rochester, IN and a sister, Mrs. DeVerl (Marjorie) Holloway of Rochester, IN; and seven grandchildren. A daughter preceded him in death.
Funeral service was held today (Wednesday) Oct. 1, 1997 at 11:00 a.m. at the Calvary United Methodist church of Syracuse; Rev. Leroy Wise officiated. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery of North Manchester.
Bender Chapel Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements. Preferred memorials are to the Oakwood Foundation, Syracuse, IN.
