George J. Alvanitakis, 73, of Brookhaven, died April 4 at the Crozer-Chester Medical Center.

Born in Philadelphia, he lived in Media before moving to Brookhaven 40 years ago. Mr. Alvanitakis was a chef and restaurateur, retiring in 1983. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, where he earned the Asiatic-Pacific medal, the American Theater medal and the Victory medal. He was past president of Chester Delco No. 79, Ahepa. Mr. Alvanitakis was son of the late John and Anna Koutchellis Alvanitakis.
Survivors: Wife, Christine Christopoules Alvanitakis; daughter, Annette Vanaskey of Elkton, Md.; sons, John and Thomas Alvanitakis, both of Brookhaven; sister, Mary Jiottis of Ossippee, N.H.; six grandchildren.
Service: 11 a.m. Friday, St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 30 E. Forge Road, Media.
Burial: Chester Rural Cemetery.
Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the White-Luttrell Funeral Home, 311 N. Swarthmore Avenue, Ridley Park, where there will be Trisagion at 8 p.m. Additional calling hours are 10:15-11 a.m. Friday at the church.
Contributions: St. George Greek Orthodox Church Building Fund, 30 E. Forge Road, Media, PA 19063.
