Edward B. Fritz, 88, of Blakesburg died Feb. 22, 1989, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center. He was born Nov. 20, 1900, in Blakesburg to Frank and Emma Barnhart Fritz. He was a member of Blakesburg United Methodist Church since 1915, Blakesburg Masonic Lodge for 65 years, IOOF Lodge for 65 years, Blakesburg Lions Club, and Wapello County Historical Society. He attended Blakesburg High School and graduated from Maryville High School in Missouri in 1921. He was the Blakesburg representative for Iowa Southern Utilities for 66 years, and owned a hardware store in Blakesburg. He retired in 1976 after 56 years of service. He married Marjorie Jay on July 31, 1927, in Blakesburg.He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Barbara Cook of Storm Lake and Janet Maas of Iowa City; and four grandchildren. The service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Blakesburg United Methodist Church, the Rev. David Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Blakesburg Cemetery. The family will be at Knedler Funeral Home from 7-8 p.m. today. Pallbearers will be Billie Winecup, Russell Gillen, Jeff Johnson, Jay and John Cook, and Curt Maas. Memorials have been established to his church and Blakesburg First Responders.
