Charles Lewis Johnson was the second of 3 children of Silas Johnson and Laura Belle "Cox" Johnson. His father's side of the family had recently moved to Woodson County, Kansas from Koshkonong, Wisconsin just before he was born. In Kansas, his family had a farm in Liberty Twp, Woodson County, and his father's brother Harvey also had a pharmacy and music store in Yates Center. As a teenager his family moved to Neosho Twp, Coffey Co, KS where he met Lora Waneta Thomas. They married in Leroy, Coffey CO, KS in 1901. The new couple moved to Rio Grande CO, CO before 1910. They had 2 children, Cecile and Hershel. Lora passed away in 1913. Charles continued to reside in Colorado and was raising 2 young children alone. He married Lillie Grace JOHNSTON on 10 Jun 1915. They had 2 more children, Mary and Patsy.
