In 1896 her father moved the family to Los Angeles where her younger siblings were born. Annie returned to Canada but spent extended time visiting her widowed mother in California. Her own daughter Virginia was born there.
In September 1908 she married David H. McDougall in Vancouver and they settled in Calgary to raise their six children.
