Lucile was born on January 12, 1915 in Guadalupe County, Texas to Charles Herman and Marie Elizabeth Wille Erck.
She grew up in Seguin and attended Seguin High School where she was a star basketball player. She was married to her high school sweetheart, Nolan "Sonny" Kunkel for 47 years until his death in 1982. Lucile was the right arm of their family business, Kunkel's Garage, for many years. She kept the books, often pumped gas, and knew car parts as well as the mechanics. She produced wonderful baked goods and beautiful quilts with loving hands and the kindest of hearts. She will be dearly missed. Lucile was a lifelong active member of First United Methodist Church, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary H. U. Wood Unit 245 and volunteered at the Seguin Silver Center and the Conservation Society."
