Death of Mrs. Elizabeth Agle.
Communicated to The Era.
The many friends of Mrs. Elizabeth Agle will be pained to hear of her death, which occurred at Lawrence, Kan., October 18th. The following day she was laid to rest in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Agle, whom many will remember as Elizabeth Fortney, was born near Shippensburg, Cumberland County, Pa., February 31, 1820. In her early womanhood she was married to Mr. Christopher Agle, and they settled near Shippensburg. Here were born to them five children, who are well known in their native place. Mrs. Agle was left a widow nearly sixteen years ago, and eight years after her husband's death, she and the younger children decided to seek a new home farther west. After a year spent in Bloomdale, Ohio, the family removed to Lawrence, Kansas. Here the last seven years of her life have quietly passed away in the home made for her by her sons and only daughter. Although she had passed her seventy-first year, she seemed likely to live yet many years. But she was called away without warning, in the morning as well as usual, in the evening sleeping the last long sleep. The cause of death was indigestion and heart failure. This was a sudden blow to her children, but they try to rest in the thought that it is well with her. The loving ministralations and solicitude for her family hallowed her memory. It shall be said of her that "her children arise up, and call her blessed."
Of the children, Mr. Henry Agle still lives in Shippensburg, Mr. John Agle has located in Topeka, Kansas, and Mr. George Agle, Mr. Wilson Agle and Miss Mary Teresa Agle are in Lawrence. Many other relatives and friends will lovingly cherish the memory of this good woman, who is now waiting their coming to our Father's home.
