Jack and his wife Marjorie lived in Barnes, WI before moving to their son's home in Larkspur, CO in 2009. They also lived in Superior and spent 16 winters in Phoenix, AZ.
Jack graduated from Wisconsin State Teachers College and earned graduate degrees from the University of Minnesota and University of Wisconsin-Superior. Following college graduation in 1942, he served three years in World War II, serving 26 months in the European Theater as a sergeant and was awarded the Bronze Star.
In 1947, Jack began his teaching career at the Ericsson School and later was a principal at Bryant, Ericsson and Lincoln elementary schools. Prior to his retirement in 1983, he was the director of federal programs. Jack was inducted into the Hall of Fame for Educators in Superior in 1988.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother James ; and sister Mary.
Jack is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marjorie (Selden) of Larkspur, CO; daughter, Kathy (Michael) Heffernan of Camp Connell, CA; son John (Jennifer) Merrihew; grandchildren, Bradley (Alison) Crane, Kevin (Samantha) Crane, Taylor and Nicole Merrihew; step-grandchildren, John (Thea) Heffernan, Michaelelene Walker and Timothy (Megan) Heffernan; three great-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.
At Jack's request there will be no service. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Superior.
His wonderful, crazy sense of humor will be missed by all of his family and friends.
