He was born Nov. 27, 1921, in Anderson, and was a lifelong Anderson resident. He was retired from Container Corporation of America after 36 years.
He was an active member of Main Street Church of God, where he had been Junior Boys Sunday school teacher, an usher and greeter for 35 years and had served as trustee.
He was active in the Men's Fillowship, where he had been secretary-treasurer. He had served as Scout Master for 15 years, advisor to the Explorer Scouts for two years, and received the Universal Scout Award and Unknown Scout Statue for going beyond his duties.
He was an Army veteran having served 3 1/2 years overseas, receiving the Good Conduct Medal. He was very instrumental in the building of the new Main Street Church of God.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Leora M (Ashby) Pierce; a son, Jeffrey D. Pierce of Anderson; a daughter, Pauline F. Fulp of Columbia, Ky.; a brother, Clifford Pierce of Anderson; four sisters, Arminta Anthony, Mrs. Francis (Delores) Paschal and Mrs. Kenneth (Eleanore) Bilyeu, all of Anderson, and Mrs. Joseph (Betty) Coonrod of Monticello; a stepbrother, Everett McVey of Anderson; four granddaughters; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Main Street Church of God with the Rev. Glenn Skinner officiating. Burial will be at East Maplewood Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home and one hour before services Friday at the church.
