John H. Ruhl, resident of Douglas for over twenty years, died at his home in Douglas last Thursday evening at 5:30 o'clock, after many years of ill health. Mr. Ruhl's youth was spent in Pennsylvania and in 1856 he moved to Indiana. At East Germantown in that state he was married June 24, 1858, to Miss Sophie E. Rehmeyer, who survives him. Mr. Ruhl was a veteran of the civil war, enlisting in the Twelfth Indiana Infantry in 1862 and giving faithful service to his country until his honorable discharge. In 1895 he moved with his family to this county, living for a number of years on a ranch until his removal to Douglas. Besides his wife he is survived by two sons and a daughter, E. W. and S. H. Ruhl and Mrs. A. J. Forbes, all residents of Douglas. (Information was obtained from his obituary in the Douglas Budget Dec. 28, 1916; mortuary and cemetery records.)
