Robert M. Cooper, 101, passed from this life peacefully on Wednesday, October 6, 2004, at a care facility in Odessa, Texas. He was born on August 31, 1903, in Midland, Texas, to Ambrose Q. and Harriett Lucille Moore Cooper, a pioneering family of the Midland/Odessa area.
Mr. Cooper attended schools in Odessa and ultimately Hamlin, Texas, where he graduated from high school. He later moved to Chicago, Illinois, where he attended and graduated from an Electrical Engineering school, and then worked for Illinois Bell Telephone for 35 years before retirement.
After moving to Kerrville to enjoy retirement, he became very well known in the community where he was a member of the First Christian Church, the Elks Lodge, and was a 60-year Master Mason, being a member of the Kerrville Masonic Lodge #697 A.F. & A.M. He was recently awarded his 60-year service pin at his 101st birthday party at 220 Harper before moving back to Odessa. He taught many students in Defensive Driving for over 25 years, where many have fond memories of those times.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Cecelia Cooper; and second wife, Lois R. Trigg Cooper.
Mr. Cooper is survived by a daughters, Cecilia Cooper of Chicago, Illinois, and Bobbie Covey of Kerrville, Texas; granddaughters, Toni Box and husband, Michael, of Houston, Texas, and Gina Romero of Dallas, Texas; niece, Phyllis Janke of Odessa, Texas; nephew, Albert Janke of Kenniwick, Washington; great-nieces, Janice Mayer of Redding, California, and Barbara Stout of Odessa, Texas; great-nephews, David Stout and Jim Stout, both of Corpus Christi, Texas, Wesley Stout of Weatherford, Texas, and Cole and Kirk Fraley, both of Fort Worth, Texas; along with a host of many loving friends, neighbors and Masons.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 9, 2004, at the Kerrville Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Arlie Lammers officiating. Interment with Masonic Rites will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery, Kerrville, Texas.
At the family's request, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Odyssey Healthcare, 2651 JBS Parkway, Bldg. 4, Ste B, Odessa TX 79761.
