Obituary of Ella (Quimby) Wright from the Martin Family Scrapbook:

"Died of typhoid pneumonia, at the residence of P.G. Wright, Esq., in Martinsburg, Dixon, Co., Neb., Jan. 5, 1880, Mrs. Ella Wright, wife of L.G. Wright, aged 28 yrs. The funeral was held at the Martinsburg school house, Jan. 8th. The funeral sermon was preached by Mr. Smith, the Methodist minister of this circuit.

Mrs. Wright was born at Aetna [sic], Wisconsin, and when but 3 weeks old her mother died, and she was adopted by her Uncle Hosea Low, of Waukon, Allamakee Co., Iowa, where she was married Nov. 30, 1874, the ceremony being performed by Rev. B.C. Hammond, pastor of the M.E. Church of which she was a member.

Mrs. Wright moved with her husband to Martinsburg about 4 yrs. ago, and resided there until her death. She left one daughter 4 years old and one babe, 6 weeks old.

Mrs. Wright was an amiable and excellent woman, a sincere Christian, and a devoted wife and mother. Greatly beloved by all who knew her, she was followed to the grave by a large concourse of sorrowing friends."

---------------
From historical records, such as the 1860 & 1870 Census, I found that Ella went by Sarah, Ellen, & Ella and she didn't seem to be raised by her uncle Hosea Low, as much as by another uncle, Henry Hobbs Low and his wife Harriet (Beebe) Low, as well as by her older sister, Ann Sophia (Quimby) Nye and husband, Alfred Nye. Her daughters, Anna Eliza (Wright) Asbury (my great-grandmother) and Ella Quimby (Wright) Pfaff, both went on to marry and have children, and moved out West to Southeastern Washington with their father, Lyman Granger Wright, and Anna's family.

As pointed out in her obituary, Ella's mother, Ann James (Low) Quimby, died when she was very young and is buried in Lafayette County, Wisconsin. Ella's father, Selden Quimby, remarried and had traveled with his new wife (Margatte A (Unknown) Quimby, born about 1831-32 in Pennsylvania) down to Texas to look into property there in the late 1850's and were going to send for his children once they became settled. Family stories are that Selden was shot and killed for being a "damn Yankee" sometime in 1860 or 1861 as Civil War tensions started to heat up. No official documentation can be found for his death and/or burial in Texas, although he and his 2nd wife are found in the 1860 Census in Buchanan, Johnson, Texas. And further family stories claim that his second wife took control of his estate, which was probably fairly considerable (total valuation in the 1850 Census was well over $10,000 (nearly $300,000 in 2014 value), and none of his estate ever made it back to any of his children!
