He was a native of Moore County, son of the late Willie Rufus and Nannie Chapman Burton. He was a member of the Methodist Church.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Jonnie Laws Burton; five daughters, Mrs. Nell Tucker and Mrs. Clyda Sisk, both of Fayetteville, Mrs. Jimmie Sue Grimes of Killeen, Texas, Mrs. Dorothy Jean Bell of Hazel Green, Alabama, and Mrs. Frankie Smith of France; four sons, Claude Burton and Clyde Burton, both of Fayetteville, Robert R. Burton of Detroit, Michigan, and Willis E. Burton of Nashville, Tennessee; one brother, Lon Burton of Lynchburg, Tennessee; twenty-four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
