Thomas Dale Williams, known as Tom Williams, died peacefully at 6:30 p.m. August 19, 2012 in the final stage of the terrible mind-robbing disease of Alzheimers. He fought a courageous fight to the end. He was a well-known and much-respected businessman and owner of Tom Williams Machine, Incorporated for almost 30 years. Prior to that, he had operated Tom Williams Construction Company for a few years following a long partnership with his brother, Eugene Williams, in a dirt construction business known as Williams Brothers Construction Company.
He served in the U. S. Army as a diesel mechanic and served overseas at Verdun, France. He returned from the Army in December 1955 and then decided with his brother to purhase a bulldozer. They added other dirt moving equipment and contracted several road jobs and lagoons in the area, along with many ponds, clearing, sewer work and leveling of all types. They were considered among the best in this area. Tom Williams Machine is still operating under the able management of Ed Lewis.
Tom was the seventh child born to Herbert and Glen Williams on November 13, 1930. Two infant sisters and two brothers, Harold and Eugene, are now deceased. He married Lee (Leola) Henson on December 28, 1955. They have one surviving daughter, Dale Conn, of Lakewood, Colorado.
Tom was preceded in death by two infant children and one son, Darin. He is survived by three brothers, Roy (Valda) of Springfield, Charles (Delores) of Sunrise Beach and Martin (Garlene) of Unionville; five sisters, Elsa Manes, of Springfield and Willodean Vaught, Rebekah (Rex) Miller and Glenna Edmondson all of Cassville and Evalina (Gene) Shippee of Dillon, Montana.
He accepted Christ as his Savior at the age of 24 and was baptized. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Aurora.
Tom was a designer and creator, always able to envision a better way to do things. He loved his work and was very successful at what he did. He never had a dull or boring day in his life, with always another idea in his mind. His main line of work at present had been the designing and manufacturing of cable plow parts, which are sold nationwide.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 56 years; daughter and son-in-law, David Conn; and granddaughters: Amy (Brex) Wollin and their son and three daughters and Sarah (Dan) Blem and their daughter.
Funeral services were held August 23 in the Southside Baptist Church, under the care of Peterson Funeral Chapel with burial in Maple Park Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice or to Southside Baptist Church.
