John Henry Armstrong is the son of John Thomas Armstrong and Lonie Duncan. He was born in Andalusia, Alabama on July 10, 1896. [1][2]
In 1900, the family owned a home in Crenshaw Alabama. John Thomas farmed to care for the family. At the time, the family had 6 children including Madison Jeter Armstrong, Carrie Viola, Jessie Alma, William Walter, and I. Devaucious, and John Henry are living at home. [3]
In 1910, the family still lives in Andalusia on "The Little Road", and they are still farming. The older children help on the farm, and the family has grown to 11 children (and all still living). Madison Jeter Armstrong, Carrie Viola, John Henry, William Walter, I. Devaucious are still living at home. Beurie Lee, Teddie, Tess Ree, Marvin, and Marshall, have joined the family. [4]
Before he left home, little brother Alfred Foster Armstrong was born in 1910.
Marriage and Family

On September 13, 1912 in Covington County Alabama, John Henry and Ida Mae Jeter married. Their marriage records indicate that he is 21 and she is 18, but she was only 14 and he was 15. [5]
His baby brother Reid Armstrong and daughter, Allie Mae were born within a month of each other in 1913. Ida Pearl, and Roma Lee followed in 1913 and 1915.
Sadly, his 17 year old brother, Marshall, and his 7 month old daughter died within a month of each other in the beginning of 1919.
In 1920, the coupe rented rented a house in Straughn's School House, Alabama. He farmed to care for his family. [6]
Then, in 1920, their daughter, Nonie Lavada, was born.
In 1930, he owned a house on Mill Street in Brewton, Alabama, had a wife, Ida Mae Jeter and four children, Ida Pearl, Nonie Lee, Tramble and Brenson Neal. John Henry worked at a lumber mill as a lumber grader. [7]
In 1940, The couple still live in their home on Mill Street. John still works at the lumber mill. Only Neal remains at home. None of his other siblings are listed on this census. His older brother, Tramble has joined the war effort. His sister had married and moved out.[8]
In 1942, he lost his son. They received word that Tramble had died in the war after being missing in action. [9][10][11]
At some point, the family moved to Florida between 1942 and 1970 where he eventually retired from the Escambia County School board and worked in his son's company as vice-president of Armstrong Electric Company. [12] The couple were also active with the Nazarene Church.
Their marriage ended in divorce before 1950. He is living with his daughter in Pensacola in 1950, and claims to be widowed. However, his wife did not pass away until 1973. [13]

His wife went on to remarry. However, I cannot find their divorce records - or whether or not he remarried.
