Ruth Moore Dankof, 98, of Hamburg, IA passed away on August 16, 2012 at the Ambassador in Sidney, IA.

Mrs. Dankof was born on February 21, 1914 at Greeley, NE; the daughter of George and Annie (McCollum) Moore. She attended school in Ericson, NE and graduated from the Ericson High School with the class of 1934 with 12 classmates.

She married Darrell "Danny" Dankof on June 7, 1936 in Dunbar, NE.

Ruth was left motherless at the age of 3. She lived with relatives for two years and at the age of five, she was put into The Mother of Jewel Orphanage in York, NE. She remained there until she was 13 years old. She returned to her father and the ranch. The next year her father, George Moore fell ill and died. Ruth was then put into social services care and she was given foster parents. She remained in two different homes until she was married.

Ruth lived in Hamburg and worked at Inter-State Nursery for 35 years. She began working there in 1938 and worked primarily as an order filler.

She and her husband owned and operated a greenhouse of annual plants from 1947-1953.

She was a member of the Methodist Church and enjoyed being with her family, cooking, working with plants and flowers, reading and had great fun with whomever she was around.

Surviving is a son Danny D. Dankof of St. Joseph, MO; two daughters: Annette Thompson of Hamburg, IA and Mary Gail Lyons and husband Tom of Washington, IA; 11 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1987, son Michael K. Dankof in 2010, grandson David Thompson; five brothers (Cameron, Ford, John, Gilbert and Roscoe); sister Pearl Christensen and son-in-law Buford Thompson.
