OBITUARY
Daniel Myers
Daniel Myers was born July 23, 1848, in Marion, Franklin county, Pa., and died at his home, 712 East Eleventh street, about 5:30 o'clock Tuesday morning, April 6, 1926, aged 77 years, 8 months and 13 days.
He was the last of ten children born to Jacob and Mary Lina Myers, who came West after the Civil War in 1868. During the war the family was subjected to many trials, the most severe being the loss of three children from diphtheria in one month. Benjamin died Sept. 7, Margaret Elizabeth Sept. 9 and Mary Ann Sept. 19, 1862. Mrs. Elizabeth Keefer, mother of Dr. Frank Keefer, took care of Daniel during this epidemic. Mr. Myers had a very vivid memory of the burning of Chambersburg by the rebel general, McCausland, in July, 1864, when as a boy of 16 he, with a party, "skedaddled" with their horses and provisions to the nearby mountains until the raid was over.
One of Mr. Myers' brothers, George, passed away in death Nov. 2, 1920, at an advanced age and a sister, Mrs. Catherine Myers Keefer, with whom Mr. and Mrs. Myers spent four winters and one summer at Conrad, Ia., died June 13, 1925.
On May 24, 1894, Mr. Myers was united in Marriage to Miss Alice Mott, Rev. ________ performing the ceremony at the Broadway M. E. parsonage. They have made their home at 712 East Eleventh street _________ __________ was ____ ________ in Sterling for two terms and served as long subsequently as assistant. He did the clerical work connected with this office and always bore the reputation of being very honest and economical in the expenditure of the public money. He was widely known over the city and of the work many inquiries were made of his successors as to his whereabouts.
Mr. Myers years ago was a member of what was known as the Hickory Grove church in Genesee township. The building has been gone for years although the old cemetery is there where the dead of half a century ago are buried.
With his wife he united with St. John's Lutheran church on Easter Sunday, March 27, 1924, by profession of faith. He has been a regular attendant at the services and deeply interested in all the work of the kingdom of God.
While he did not occupy a large place in the affairs of his fellow men, he was ever faithful and true in humble positions of public service. He found great comfort in his church relationships, where he numbered his best and closest friends. During his last illness, while ____ ____ ____ ____ several months, he gave manifest appreciation of the visits of his pastor. When the end of his long life came peacefully at the dawn of Tuesday morning, he was ready to enter that bourne whence no traveler returns.
There is something hallowed and peaceful about such a death and the faithful wife and many friends are comforted by the reflection that he hath entered the Home Eternal on high.
