Mrs. Kate Lichty, the estimable wife of Frank E. Lichty, of Columbia, died last Saturday at her home in that place. Deceased was a daughter of Daniel Trewitz, of this city, and this is the first death that has occurred in Mr. Trewitz's family of seven children. Mrs. Lichty was forty-five years old and had many friends in this city. Death was caused by erysipelas. Three weeks ago she boiled soap and used lye. She stood at the kettle and stirred the mixture and inhaled the fumes of the lye. A couple of days later her nose became affected (sic) with erysipelas and the disease extended all over her face. On Wednesday her condition took a serious turn and she gradually grew worse. Mrs. Lichtly lived in Columbia seventeen years, and was held in high esteem by a wide circle of friends. Her husband survives.
Deceased was a member of the Lutheran Church. She was never sick a day in her life until attacked with the disease which caused her death.
