Jo Ann Jones, 79, of La Junta, died on October 4, 2011. She was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1931 in La Junta, to Claude and Mildred (Eddy) Jenkins. She was a 1950 graduate of La Junta High School and attended Otero Junior College. She married Charles O. "Chuck" Jones on September 30, 1956. They just celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.

She was preceded in death by her parents and niece, Denise Thomas of Albuquerque, NM.

She is survived by her husband Charles of La Junta; children, Dr. Elizabeth Ann "Libby" Jones of Los Alamos, NM, Charles Randall "Randy" Jones of La Junta, and Catherine Lynn "Cathy" (John) Davis of Avondale, CO; granddaughters, Jessica and Julianna Davis of Avondale; sister, Linda (Alan) Root of La Junta; nephew, Aaron (Shalaine) Root of Thornton, CO; grandniece Lilaneah Root of Thornton; niece, Jennifer Jo Ann (Jeff) Jackson of La Junta; cousins, Jeanne (Sal) Dasta and Kevin (Sheila) Rafferty of Kansas City, MO; sister-in-law, Gale (Elton) Thomas of Albuquerque; and nephew David Thomas of Albuquerque.

During her life, she worked for various businesses in the La Junta area, including the AT&SF railroad as a PBX operator, Otero County Abstract, and the Koshare Kiva Museum where she managed the gift shop for 30 years.

She was a Girl Scout leader and leader trainer, a Cub Scout leader, a Koshare Key leader, and the proud mother of an Eagle Scout.

She enjoyed many handcrafts, including sewing for her children and knitting. Favorite hobbies included travel, attending her granddaughters' sporting events, and spoiling her many pets. She never missed a performance of the OJC Dance Studio where her niece Jennifer participated, taught, and is a director.

There was cremation. A celebration of her life will be scheduled at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o George & Connie Elder, 721 Carson Avenue, La Junta, CO, 81050 or to the La Junta Senior Center, 114 E. 2nd Street, La Junta or to a charity of choice direct or through the funeral home.
