Virgil Victor Addie, 87, son of Rollo Addie and Clarice Alverson Addie, was born June 4, 1917, at Emerald Grove, Wis. He died Sept. 23, 2004, at Springfield.
As a veteran of World War II, he served in the Army's 760th Field Artillery Battalion. He served on Luzon Island in the Philippines and in New Guinea. He was part of the first occupational troops to enter Japan after its surrender.
He was well-known in the southeast Wisconsin area for long-distance semi driving, residential construction and an aluminum siding installer. In Rio, Wis., he was the owner of A-C Auto Salvage.
He had lived in Houston since June 1978 and served as an elder of the Church of Christ (Temple Lot) in his later years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mary Beachtel Addie in 1982, who he married in 1943; and two brothers, Russell and Sherwin Addie.
Surviving are his second wife, Sylvia Seibel Addie of Houston, who he married in 1988; seven children, Cheryl Renly of Janesville, Wis., Jeannette Rogers of Waunakee, Wis., Jerrold Addie of Menomonie, Wis., Michael Addie of Moreno Valley, Calif., Walter Addie of Madison, Wis., and Martin Addie and Jamie Addie of Springfield; one sister, Bonita Rubitsky of Winter Park, Fla.; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services were Sept. 27 at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Pine Lawn Cemetery.
