Mattie Abernethy was the sister to Mary Alice Whitener. She married Pinkney Forney. Her parents were Peter Wilfong Whitener and Catherine Elizabeth Shuford. Mattie married Pinkney R. Forney Dec. 21, 1872 in Catawba Co. and they had a daughter, Pinkey. After Pinkney's death she married Julius Franklin Abernethy Oct. 11, 1896 in Catawba Co. and they had 9 children.
