According to Stones River National Cemetery records, this soldier died of wounds at Murfreesboro, TN, according to info from the Illinois Roster.Son of Benjamin and Sarah Pounds. In August of 1862 he joined the Illinois 73rd Infantry at Prairie Creek, Logan County, IL. On 31 December 1862, he was wounded in action at the Battle of Stones River near Murfreesboro Tennessee, twenty-eight miles southeast of Nashville and died in a field hospital there ten days later. Within what is today the Stones River National Cemetery there are 6,850 graves, with 2,562 of them being unidentified. One corpse in the latter group is that of Benjamin Jr.

Benjamin enlisted with three of his brothers and was the only one to not survive the War. Based on his death, his parents applied for a pension in 1873. They were living in Jewell Co. KS at the time, and both of them died there.
