Hazel King Todd 1908 ~ 2004 KAYSVILLE - Hazel King Todd, our dear mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend passed away April 16, 2004 in Kaysville, Utah after a long and valiant life. She was 95 years old. Hazel was born October 22, 1908 to Joseph King and Sarah Louella Strong in Moore, Idaho. When she was three years old the family returned to Utah and purchased a farm in the Uintah Basin in the small town of Cedarview. It was in Cedarview that Hazel spent her growing-up years as part of a large and happy family of eight girls and two boys. She went to the first grade in a tent while the two-room school building was being built. She attended that two-room school through the eighth grade and then went to Roosevelt for High School. After High School, because of an intense desire to attend college, she worked for a year, and then enrolled in Snow College in Ephraim, Utah where she earned a teaching certificate. She later graduated from Utah State University in Logan. Her first teaching job was with the Uintah County Schools, and she was assigned to the Ballard Elementary School where she taught first and second grade for four years. While living in Ballard she met Francis S. Todd and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on June 8, 1933. Francis's wish to finish his college education led them to Logan, Utah where he graduated from USAC in 1941. He took a job with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and that job required them to move quite often over the years. They first lived in Phoenix, AZ; then Whiteriver, AZ; Duchesne, Utah; Jerome, ID; Preston, ID; North Salt Lake, Brigham City; and they retired in Santaquin, Utah. In Santaquin they gardened ½ acre and had a beautiful yard. Francis passed away in Santaquin on Nov. 11, 1984, and after a few years Hazel moved to Kaysville to be near a daughter and family. She was a multi-talented, independent woman who lived alone until five days prior to her death. She wrote and produced road shows, and had several stories published in the old Relief Society magazine. She was a devoted and active member of the LDS Church and served unselfishly in each area where she lived. She was a helpful neighbor and friend and gave much to her children, grandchildren and their families. She taught early morning seminary in Salt Lake City for several years, and also taught school in various locations culminating at the T.H. Bell Jr. High School in Weber District until she retired. She is survived by two sisters: Mabel Whatcott, Burdella Croft and one brother: John King. Her children are: Jeanette (Jim) Brough, Kaysville; Therald F. Todd (Betty), Port Townsend, WA; Neal K. Todd (Mary Ann), Clearfield, PA; Larry D. Todd (Sandy), Littleton, CO; and Loreen (John) Ricette, San Diego, CA. She has 20 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by Louie Atwood, Myrtle Spencer, Mary Timothy, Pearl Jones and Ethyl Jones. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 22, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the Kaysville Brookhaven Chapel, 190 Country Lane (900 E. 200 No.). Friends and family may call Wed. from 6-8 p.m. at Lindquist's Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main and Thurs. from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery. e‑mail condolences to the family at [email protected]
