Allan Richard Cook, 65, of 125 East Park Terrace, Pittsfield, died Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at Laurel Lake Center for Health and Rehabilitation in Lee. Born in Pittsfield on August 9, 1946, son of the late Allan V. and Leona Brown Cook, he was a 1964 graduate of Pittsfield High School. A Viet Nam War veteran, Mr. Cook enlisted with the United Sates Marine Corps on August 16, 1966, served as a Corporal, nine months overseas, and was honorably discharged on August 15, 1969, and transferred to the Marine Corps Reserves. Mr. Cook had been a Police Officer with the Pittsfield Police Department. In more recent years, he was a Certified Nursing Assistant at Hillcrest Commons and at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center. He had been a communicant of the former Notre Dame Church. He was a Red Sox, Celtics, and Patriots fan, and enjoyed bowling. Mr. Cook leaves his wife, the former Angela Bencivenga, whom he married July 6, 2002. Besides his wife, Mr. Cook is survived by a son, Joshua A. Cook, of Pittsfield; two daughters, Lisa M. Dondi of Pittsfield and Lori Mitchell and her husband, Brad, of Dawsonville, Georgia; a sister, Linda M. Reid, of Pittsfield; six grandchildren, Jaiden, Gabe, Olivia, Dylan, Connor, and Jazmin; and his stepmother, Theresa Cook of Pittsfield; as well as two stepsons, Michael Welch and Matthew Welch, both of Pittsfield; four nephews, Jeremy and Christopher Davis and Dylan and Cameron Bencivenga, two nieces, Jena Davis and Mia Bencivenga; his mother-in-law, Maria Bencivenga; two brothers-in-law, Sergio and Eduardo Bencivenga; and a sister-in-law, Brooke Bencivenga. He was pre-deceased by his father-in-law, Eduardo Bencivenga, and a son-in-law, Christopher Dondi. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Allan Richard Cook will be held Tuesday, March 13, at 8:15 a.m. from DERY FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Mark Church celebrated by Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, C.S.S.. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Cook may be made to the Berkshire County Jimmy Fund in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
